Finland’s Disc Golf Team Scores 9th Place at the World Championships
In a commendable show of skill, Finland’s national disc golf team secured ninth place at the World Team Disc Golf Championships, which wrapped up in Croatia over the weekend. The tournament, held at the picturesque Zadar course from November 8–11, brought together fierce competitors from 27 nations, all aiming to unseat reigning champions.
Despite battling through tough headwinds and a roster of experienced opponents, Team Finland put up a strong fight in the early rounds. However, it wasn’t enough to break into the top tier this year. Finland’s ultimate standing at ninth is both respectable and serves as a reminder of the competitive nature of disc golf at the international level.
The team lineup, led by top Finnish players such as Niklas Anttila and Henna Blomroos, showcased promising rounds. The Finnish contingent managed to defeat several high-ranking teams, demonstrating Finland’s deep talent pool and tactical prowess, especially in doubles rounds. Yet, they faced setbacks in some of the crucial head-to-head matches.
The Czech Republic, a perennial underdog in the sport, came out as the overall winner of the event—a testament to their disciplined approach and rigorous preparation. Their victory signals a growing shift in European disc golf, traditionally dominated by countries like the United States and Sweden.
For Finland, this tournament highlighted areas for growth, particularly in adapting to course challenges like heavy winds and a mix of wooded and open holes—a strategic and physical demand.
