Samir Outahyou of Morocco set a new African record in the FIM Men Masters M1 CR 70m discipline at the 2026 CMAS World Championship Freediving Depth held in Roatan, Honduras. The achievement was marked on August 19, 2026, during the championship event organized by the World Underwater Federation (CMAS). Outahyou is seen in a photo holding a signboard displaying his record depth of 70 meters, standing in shallow water with the ocean extending into the horizon behind him.

Freediving is a discipline of underwater sports where athletes attempt to dive as deep as possible on a single breath of air. The FIM (Free Immersion) category requires divers to pull themselves down and up the line using their arms, without the use of fins or other propulsion devices. This category tests the diver's strength, technique, and ability to manage oxygen efficiently under pressure.

The 2026 CMAS World Championship Freediving Depth took place at the Roatan Freediving School & Training Center in West Bay Beach, Roatan, from August 14 to August 27. This event is a premier competition in the freediving calendar, attracting top athletes from around the world who compete in various depth and discipline categories.

Reflecting on his achievement, Outahyou stated, 'Some achievements are personal. Others become part of history. Today, I’m proud to have my name alongside Morocco’s in the continental record books in freediving. But this moment is bigger than a title. It’s about putting freediving and Moroccan athletes in the spotlight, and inspiring the next generation to dream bigger and go further. Records will be broken. Inspiration remains. Proud to write a page of history for Morocco and even prouder to inspire the next one.'
